Spacewar Intercept

The cartridge contains in fact two games: Vertical Intercept and Horizontal Intercept. Both games are supposed to take place in space.

In Vertical Intercept, you've got 20 missiles to destroy the most asteroids you can. By pressing the UP key, you launch your missile which is going vertically trying to intercept the asteroid. By pressing LEFT and RIGHT keys (on right keypad) you can steer your missile. If you destroy it, you score some points according to the size and altitude of the asteroid. It's in fact a game of reflex and coordination.

Horizontal Intercept is a bit different. It's a two player game. Each player has a canon which can fire rockets. You have 30 seconds to destroy a vertically moving blob(?) in the middle of the screen as many times as you can. By pressing the UP key you fire a rocket which is going diagonaly up until you release the key. Then it will still approach the center vilain, but diagonaly down, thus letting you adjust your target. You can even press UP again to make your rocket going up again.

These two games seem to have been inspired by Anti-Aircraft (Atari, 1975) and Guided Missile (Midway, 1977) arcade games.

 SOFTWARE RELATIONS:

Spacewar Intercept was inspired by Anti-Aircraft (Arcade)
Spacewar Intercept was inspired by Guided Missile (Arcade)
Spacewar Intercept is related to Air-Sea Battle (Atari 2600)

OTHER VERSIONS OF THE SAME SOFT:

Space War (TV Arcade I) (1977) for the RCA Studio II
Space Command (Space War) (1978) for the Toshiba Visicom 100
