Rally IV

A classic pong from Roberts with four games (hence the name of the system) and detachables paddles. Made in Japan. The difference between the Rally IV and Paddle IV are unclear. Can anyone help ? Both systems seem identical despite a different cosmetic design : same chipset, same games, same controls, switches and buttons, etc...

The console is plastic with nice woodgrain accents. A knob allows you to select from the four games. There are two buttons, one for reset and one to serve the "ball", and five switches: power, serve (manual/auto), speed (fast/normal), angle (wide/narrow) and bat size (small/large). There are two wired paddle controllers which can be mounted to each side of the cabinet, or removed. These remote controls are only equiped with a small dial. The games selection is made through a knob... This game runs on either six C-cell batteries, or a 9-volt adapter with a 1/8" jack.

COMMERCIAL TEXTS (same as Paddle IV):
- Featuring 4 games with detachable remotre control
- Automatic on screen scoring
- Simply attached to your black & white or color TV set

We need more info about this pong ! If you designed, used, or have more info about this system, please send us pictures or anything you might find useful.
Please consider donating your old computer / videogame system to Old-Computers.com or one of our partners from anywhere in the world (Europe, America, Asia, etc.).

My family bought this game new, and I still have it with box. The price tag says $38.97 (circa 1978). It does not have the AC/DC plug in converter, but does run with batteries. I''m not sure if the converter has been lost, or if it was an accessory we never owned (the box does not mention it). The output is VIDEO ONLY, sound is generated from a speaker in the console (with no volume control). Game play sometimes has observable bugs, such as balls continuing to spawn after end of game, and score continuing to increment. Still, it is a very playable version of Pong and has been a very reliable unit for the last 35+ years.

I won one of these at an auction a while back, boxed, for about $10 or so. As far as I''ve seen and researched, it seems that a boxed one is only worth about $10-$20, and about half that for unboxed.

Very fun to play, by the way...I''m from the generation after these systems came out (born in 1985), and I still pull this out and play it from time to time.
