The PB-700 was the best pocket computer of its time. It was the first to offer a 4x20 LCD screen, better than Sharp pockets !

HI guys I am a practicing engineer in the Oil Industry and still use my PB700 daily I bought it in 1983 C/W the interface and 3 colour plotter at the time it was the top machine and made HP41 etc look like a museum piece. I have the 3 memory expansion modules and generated a lot of programs for it I must be one of the last guys to be still using this - what a machine!

Some information I have obtained from restoring one I got on ebay: The PB-700 like all personal computers of the time was mainly dedicated to programming. BASIC allowed the user to program some useful and entertaining software. The lack of an internal non-volatile memory is a disadvantage when it comes to battery replacement but a small button cell battery keeps the RAM alive in these changes, you could also get docking bays with tape storage. While graph and graphic compatible, using these functions is hard for a beginner in BASIC as it all has to be PROGRAMMED using the BASIC code. The computer is very fast for its age running on 12KB (my model). When the battery''s are low the pixeo speaker will quieten or the LCD will go blank and/or flicker. The machine came out in 1983 and I think discontinued in 1984. Its an interesting computer that is quite rare although my Toshiba T2200SX and RM NB300 machines are probably rarer due to lake of information on the web. The RM NB300 has practically no information on it, only one site with a brief description hidden in Googlies deepest and darkest archives. I hope this information helps.
