The Atari 4160 STe is an Atari 520 STe with 4 MB of RAM. It was never marketed and was built by Atari for the developpers. It had a special version of TOS, version 1.6 (the Atari ST Operating System), with less bugs than in the final version !

The machine itself is just a regular STe with 4 1MB Simms, which although expensive at the time, were quite commonplace.

The badges can be bought from eBay, so seeing one of these machine for sale is no guarantee that you are getting a ''Genuine'' developer example.

I own an origianl Atari 4160 STf Engineering Sample!

An 4160 STe never exists and is never sold in the World! Only the Type Stickers exists and were sold separately over the World!

Atari decide to produce only the Mega ST 1, 2 and 4 und the following Mega STe 1, 2 and 4!

So the 4160 STf is the only existing 1040 like ST with 4 Mb Ram on Board!

The information displayed here is false. The 4160STE was sold in Europe and was not a developer only machine. Badges that say 4160STE on them can also be bought from a few retailers that still sell Atari related products so all you have to do is open any 520STE or 1040STE, upgrade it to 4 megs of RAM and change the badging to say 4160STE and voila! You are now the proud owner of a super rare "developer only" machine.
