FM Towns II EX

The Fujitsu FM TOWN II EX is the successor of the FM TOWN II which used an i386SX CPU instead of the i486 DX2.

Even if it is fully compatible with all PC compatibles, it was primary designed to be used as a powerful game computer. It has the common characteristics with game consoles like enhanced sound, hardware sprites and scrolling and video modes : it has in fact four video modes : 640 x 480 (1 screen of 16.7 million colors), 512 x 384 (2 screens of 32768 colors), 1024 x 768 (2 screens of 16 colors among 4096) or 1024 x7* 768 (1 screen of 256 colors among 16.7 millions).

This computer had, as its previous models, a great success in Japan and a lot of multimedia and game applications were developped for it, but however was never launched outside Japan.

We need more info about this computer ! If you designed, used, or have more info about this system, please send us pictures or anything you might find useful.

It looks like a Macintosh, minus the optical drive.

As far as I know there is no FM TOWNS II EX. The three FM TOWNS machines that come in this style of case that I know of are the UX, UG, and the UR. I have the latter. The UX and UG both have 386SX processors, the UX has a 386SX 16MHz, the UG has a 386SX 20MHz. The UR has a 486SX 20MHz. All three models are limited to 10MB RAM max. The only thing I can think of is you have mixed up a picture of a UX with the stats of the much later MX machine, which does indeed have a 486DX2 66MHz, although that machine tops out at a maximum of 100MB of RAM, not 32.
